Not an astronaut after all.

In primary school we once wrote an essay: “What I would like to be when I grow up”. The tender mind of my childhood could guess that astronaut was out of the question. Never mind! I could also become a journalist – I thought to myself, for a long time.

After discovering the wisdom of Chinese self-cultivation practices for myself as a young adult, I followed their call in my life. And then it went in a different direction after all.

The strength I drew from daily practice also awakened my intellectual feelers. So the childhood dream turned into an academic career that took me from undergraduate studies in sociology in New Zealand to a Masters in medical anthropology at Oxford University and finally to a PhD in the modern history of the development of Chinese Qigong practices at the University of Hong Kong.

Today, I am a Senior Research Fellow on Spiritual Care and hospital chaplaincy at the University of Zurich. Through Shiatsu I combine my academic perspective with insights from my Qigong practice and the beautiful, up-close art of Shiatsu.

I look forward to meeting you!

And what does “TSUBO” mean?

In the Japanese tradition, a tsubo is a pressure point through which the Shiatsu therapist works on the energy flow of the patient’s body.

The work with tsubos and the healing process brought on by it are closely connected to the heart: both that of the therapist and that of the patient. This insight is fundamental in modern Shiatsu in the style of Shizuto Masunaga (1925-1981), and is also central to my work.

Thus, for me, TSUBO and the finger print logo sum up my work as a Shiatsu therapist and serve as the name of my clinic.
