What is Shiatsu?

🇯🇵 Shiatsu is a method of complementary therapy. It is anchored in traditional Far Eastern health teachings and incorporates modern western knowledge of health promotion. The treatment takes place on the clothed body, mostly on a futon.

🤲 The therapist uses thumbs, palms, elbows and knees to exert relaxed and deep pressure on parts of the body and energy channels and uses other Shiatsu-specific techniques.

⚡️ Tensions and blockages are released and the flow of energy is harmonised, body and soul are touched and supported at the same time. Shiatsu and the discussion that accompanies treatment in a therapeutic process help to overcome difficult phases of life and lead a healthy life.

✅ Shiatsu supplements conventional and alternative medicine and is covered by supplementary insurance.

Shizuto Masunaga (1925-1981)
Founder of “Zen”-Shiatsu.

Shiatsu has its origins in the Japanese tradition and is based on the principles of Chinese acupuncture. The term “Shiatsu” literally means “finger pressure” and describes the targeted pressure massage on certain body points – so-called tsubos. Targeted pressure on tsubo, gentle stretching and stretching can release tension and balance the flow of energy (Ki). Shiatsu is therefore also known as “acupuncture without needles”.

Shiatsu’s roots date back to the 6th century when Chinese philosophies and medical theories were introduced to Japan. Various forms of manual therapy and acupressure techniques developed over time, eventually leading to the emergence of Shiatsu in the 20th century.
